What is slump test?

What is concrete slump test? How do we conduct the slump test for concrete on field or site? How useful and mandatory is this test in regards to construction project? Do we require a separate laboratory to perform slum test?

Slump test is done get the workability of the concrete.
This test is conducted by using cone like instrument having varying diameter at its top and bottom ,with known height now this instrument is oiled before den Concrete made with known w/c ratio is poured into it in three layers by compacting each layer by 25 blows then trim off extra Concrete on upper surface now cone is lifted and height of Concrete is noted down hence the difference in height gives the slump value
    Thank you
