Because the partyhats were only available for a limited time
“Heroes will also aid the God of Death in two Eye of Het mini-quests as they explore Het’s Tomb to RuneScape Gold find a powerful object that can aid the gods who are young as part of the Elder God Wars saga,” the press release reads.
In a new campaign that begins now and continues until December 3, 2022, players can get their hands on the latest version of the classic “Partyhat” the item originally available at Christmas earlier in 2001. Originally available in red, yellow, green, blue and white, RuneScape’s “The Golden Party Hat Hunt” quest will let players to obtain one of the most sought-after cosmetics in a metallic sheen.
Because the partyhats were only available for a limited time, and are now no longer available, any player lucky enough to have one can sell them for billions of coins. Even though the hats are strictly decorative and provide no benefits in terms of stats, they’re right now among the top items on the Grand Exchange, hitting the highest price of 2.1billion gold in 2015.
In order to get their hands on the heads of a Golden Party Hat, players will need to accomplish “various goals” and earn eight golden shards for their efforts. Once the eight shards are obtained, they can be added to the Golden Party Hat.
However, not only is the event time-limited, but only one golden hat is available per participant. Like their 2001 predecessors OSRS Gold For Sale, Jagex claims of the golden hats that “after the cut-off time the golden hats will not be able to be purchased again!”
